About Our Cannabis Business Projects

In 2012 when the Recreational use and sale of Marijuana was legalized in the state of Colorado (the first state in the USA to do so), CDFM was among the first building design firms to offer Architectural services to the operators of the fledgling businesses. Howard’s approach was that like other businesses, the Cannabis clients deserved high quality professional services in the analysis, design, documentation and permitting of their intended buildings. The controversial nature and government oversite of the product being sold is relevant to the design process in that very specific access, display, security and premises licensing requirements need to be addressed. However, the services and design process are akin to many other commercial project types.

Most of the projects involve the reuse and remodel of existing buildings and previous tenant types including general retail, service stations, banks, restaurants and warehouses. The new Cannabis occupancy types vary including indoor Grow/Greenhouse, Product Processing/Packaging, Medical or Retail Dispensaries and often combinations of these.
